Zevia Soda: Your New Healthy Gamer Fuel

If you spend any amount of time playing video games, you know how hard it can be to snack and drink. You usually have two choices: cheap, unhealthy snacks like chips and soda, or healthy but expensive snacks like almonds. When it comes to drinks specifically, if you want to save money you either have to stick to soda or exclusively drink water. Don’t get me wrong, drinking water is important and can be plenty satisfying, but sometimes you want just a bit more. If you used to drink a lot of soda before you switched to water, you’ve probably caved and picked up some soda more than once. This is where Zevia comes in.

Zevia Cream Soda

Zevia is a soda that uses stevia as its only sweetener instead of sugar, aspartame, Splenda, or anything else. In fact, the ingredients of Zevia Cream Soda are literally just: carbonated water, natural flavors, stevia leaf extract, and citric acid. That’s it. That means that Zevia not only has zero sugar, but also has zero calories, 0g of fat, 0mg of sodium, and 0g of carbs. In other words, Zevia is basically sparkling water with a healthy sweetener added (stevia).

In all honesty, this means that Zevia’s taste lands somewhere between sparkling water and regular soda, with its flavor being much sweeter than sparkling water but distinctly less sweet than regular soda. For some people, this might actually be a bonus, but for others its something to consider before switching full-time to Zevia. It’s worthy trying for yourself to see if it’s sweet enough or not.

Zevia Dr. Zevia

Obviously, the reason it is less sweet is that it uses stevia instead of sugar (or high fructose corn syrup, or some combination of the two). This comes with some great benefits. The most obvious ones are the health benefits you get from cutting back on sugar, from potentially losing weight to having healthier teeth. Besides the health benefits, though, I’ve also found my teeth feeling better after drinking Zevia than after drinking regular soda, and drinking Zevia also sits in my stomach better than regular soda (as in it doesn’t make me feel bloated).

Zevia Cola

All of the above is why Zevia is now the only thing I drink (besides water) when I’m gaming. You can buy Zevia at your neighborhood health food store like Trader Joe’s, and you can also buy Zevia online from Amazon. It should run you less than a dollar a can, so something like five bucks for a six pack and twenty bucks for a 24-pack, though it all depends on your store. One more thing to note: some people feel a weird aftertaste from stevia that ruins it for them. If you’re not sure if you’d like stevia or not, try buying a six pack and see if Zevia is for you. If you like it, you’ll probably join me soon as a Zevia-only soda drinker.
