Adventure Xpress: A Fun Match-3 RPG

If you like Adult Swim shows, you probably also like Adult Swim games. From Robot Unicorn Attack and Five Minutes to Kill Yourself to Amateur Surgeon and Pocket Mortys, Adult Swim has been bringing the world great, quirky games for years. For people who like their games with a certain sense of humor without sacrificing quality gameplay, it really can’t get much better than Adult Swim games, especially when it comes to smartphone and mobile gaming. Adventure Xpress is no exception to this.

Adventure Xpress Story

At its core, Adventure Xpress is a match-3 RPG, like Marvel Puzzle Quest or Puzzles and Dragons. You play the role of a courier trying to deliver letters, but of course monsters block your path. Before you get to deliver your letter, you have to defeat a bunch of levels culminating in a boss fight. Each level is made up of a few fights, and the match-3 board stays consistent within each level, meaning you can set yourself up for devastating attacks on future opponents, rather than wasting great combos on your early opponents.

Before you start each level, though, you choose your equipment (weapon and armor) and spells. At each tier (which you unlock as you level up), you can choose between a weapon with higher base damage but also a higher crit threshold or a weapon with lower base damage and a lower crit level. You can also choose between two armors which are only different aesthetically. As you level up, you can also buy and upgrade spells, which you can use by matching tiles in-game. By the way, Adventure Xpress is one of those match-3s where you can move a tile without making a match, meaning you can really set yourself up for huge combos.

Adventure Xpress Map Equipment Spells Battle

The combination of equipment, spells, and the actual matching mechanics makes Adventure Xpress a solid match-3  game with just a bit more strategy than most other match-3s. That alone makes it worth playing. The fact that it’s an Adult Swim game means it also has a fun story with colorful, quirky characters to go along with the gameplay. Adventure Xpress is also free, so any Adult Swim fans show definitely give it a try.

Since it’s free, it’s ad-supported. I feel the need to inform you at this point that the ads can be a little bit ridiculous. Mercifully, they never show up during a battle, but sometimes they’ll show not one but two ads in a row in between battles, and it can be a bit frustrating. To be clear, they’re just pop-up ads, so you don’t have to sit through a video or anything, but it needs to be pointed out because the amount of ads could be a dealbreaker. Knowing that, you should know by now whether Adventure Xpress is worthy for a spot in your smartphone game collection. I say if you’re looking for a fun puzzle RPG to play and you love Adult Swim, Adventure Xpress is a great choice.
