AlphaCat

AlphaCat: Unique SciFi Puzzler On Your Phone

Do you love scifi games? Do you like puzzlers? Do you like scifi puzzlers that you can take with you on the go? If not, well, that’s too bad. If so, though, let me tell you about the wondrous world of AlphaCat.

At first glance, AlphaCat looks like another puzzle RPG in the vein of Marvel Puzzle Quest. There is one obvious difference, though: AlphaCat is not a match-3 puzzler. Instead, it is one of those puzzles where you have to draw as long of a line as you can through matching elements. This, however, is not what makes AlphaCat unique. What makes AlphaCat unique is that it makes you feel like there is a world beyond every individual puzzle battle.

AlphaCat Planet Floor Battle

The above screenshots show what I’m talking about. The far left shows the different locations you might travel to during the game. The middle shows what it looks like once you’re in one of the dungeons in one of those locations, complete with enemies, gems, caged animals, and the keys necessary to free the animals. The far right shows what it looks like when you actually engage one of these enemies in battle. Rather than throw you from puzzle to puzzle, AlphaCat lets you take charge of your story, giving each puzzle a sense of importance in the process.

Sounds pretty cool, right? On top of that, AlphaCat does an excellent job of avoiding the feeling of stagnancy by letting you customize the party you take into battle, and letting you train up the members you do choose to join your party. You can train up your party members by feeding them treats, and you get experience bonuses if it’s your party member’s preferred food, as some prefer meats while others prefer sweets.

AlphaCat Characters Upgrades

The most important thing to know about AlphaCat is your motivation: saving all the captured kittens in the galaxy. The story starts with a Star Wars like plot where you have to obtain plans and take down an evil empire. The only difference is that you’re doing it with adorable creatures all the way along. The story is actually pretty well-done and makes you want to progress through the game, saving all the kittens that need it.

On top of all that, the graphics are really cute. Don’t let that fool you, though, because there is some serious scifi action to be had in AlphaCat. If you are a fan of scifi RPGs, puzzle games, cute cats, or just great smartphone games, AlphaCat is a must-play. It’s free to play, so you have nothing to lose by trying it out. The only downside is it takes up a deceptive amount of space (the Android download is about 20 MB, but the game needs an extra 400 MB from the first time you start it up. If you have the space on your phone though and you want to play one of the best free mobile scifi RPGs out there, give AlphaCat a try.
