Windscribe: The Best VPN With A Free Option

If you spend any amount of time on a computer (and if you play video games, you most likely do), you need a virtual private network (VPN). Even if you don’t have a computer and do all your internet browsing on your smartphone, you still need a VPN. In fact, anyone who uses the internet at all should really be using a VPN. There are a lot to choose from, but that’s why I’m here. The best, easiest VPN with a free option is Windscribe.

How Do I Use Windscribe?

Windscribe is a VPN that you can download as a desktop client for Windows, MacOS, or Linux. You can also download it as an app for your iPhone or Android. If you only want Windscribe as a browser extension, you can download it for Google Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. Finally, if you want to install Windscribe on the router level, Windscribe can either walk you through that or sell you a router already preconfigured with their VPN. In other words, no matter how you browse the internet, Windscribe has an option for you.

How Much Does Windscribe Cost?

Like many things in life, just how much functionality (bandwidth) you get out of Windscribe depends on how much you’re willing to shell out. Windscribe’s free option gives you 10GB of bandwidth a month, only allows you to use your account on one device, doesn’t offer OpenVPN configurations, and only allows you to select eight locations to run your network connections through. Windscribe also runs fairly frequent promotions which provide you with vouchers you can use to up your free allocation to, say, 50GB a month. 10GB a month is not enough to keep a constant VPN connection (while 50GB might be), but it is enough to use in certain situations, like when you need to get around an office block or something.

If you’re willing to upgrade to the Pro version of Windscribe, you can use your account on an unlimited number of devices, you’re given an unlimited amount of bandwidth to use, you can use OpenVPN configurations, and you can choose 46 different locations to run your network connections through. The Pro version of Windscribe either costs $9.00/month billed on a month-to-month basis, or $7.50/month billed on a yearly basis. You can also buy three-year subscriptions for $324, five-year subscriptions for $540, or a lifetime subscription for $900.

If that sounds a little steep, you’re in luck, because there’s a promotion going on at the time of this writing. Stacksocial is offering three-year subscriptions for $22.49, five-year subscriptions for $39.99, and lifetime subscriptions for $49.99. The three- and five-year deals are only going on for two more days, and the lifetime deal is only going on for six more days, so you’ll have to act fast. If any other Windscribe deals come up, though, I’ll try to keep you posted on this page.

But What’s So Great About Windscribe?

As I mentioned above, Windscribe is available for most desktop operating systems, smartphones, web browsers, and even routers. This means you can use Windscribe on all your devices for maximum peace-of-mind. Windscribe also blocks ads for you, so your personal information is safe on all fronts. Whether you’re worried about your ISP snooping on you, someone hacking you at the local coffee shop, or you’re just trying to get around geographic restrictions, Windscribe has your back. Once you have it installed, turning it on and off is literally as easy as pushing a button. If you’re looking for the best VPN that’s easy to use which also has a free option, you can’t do any better than Windscribe.
